Worle Century Club History

Worle Village Club started in 1905 and was built on land donated by the Hardwick family. The building is administered by the Worle Village Club Trustees and leased to the Worle Century Club.

The Village Club was usesd as a Boy’s Club and later for Snooker, Billiards, Table Tennis, Skittles and Whist Drives.

However, by 1961 the Village Club was not paying its way and a few prominent Members decided to form a Social Club within the premises and to apply for a Drinks License. It was hoped to attract 100 Members thus the name chosen was the Worle Century Club, which formally opened Saturday 1st September 1962.

The Membership grew rapidly and now stands approximately 1500, although the number of active members is considerably less.

Over the years the Club has been used for Skittles, Darts, Cribbage, Bingo, Quizzes and various entertainments. Among Artists appearing at the Club have been Adge Cutler & the Wurzels, the Swinging Blue Jeans, Phil Cool, Brian Poole, Tim Pitman and many local groups.
